Accented with your favorite cabinetry, integrated appliances are an ideal fit around the kitchen

"Where's the refrigerator?"

It's a question more and more houseguests are asking in the kitchens of today's luxury homes as integrated appliances bloom in popularity.
The term integrated appliances refers to appliances that are not only built-in ­meaning fixed into place within the coun­tertop or cabinetry-but are seamlessly connected to or sealed within the cabinetry a round them. These appliances can often accommodate custom or semi-custom cabinetry panels, hiding the face of the ap­pliance for a cohesive aesthetic (and de­ceiving the occasional houseguest).
It's a look that's been growing in popu­larity in both traditional and contemporary­styled kitchens, says Ellen Cheever of Wilmington, Del.-based interior design firm Ellen Cheever & Associates.
"In traditional kitchens, we like to have the appliance inside the cabinet so you don't have this glaring stainless steel door in the middle of beautiful cherry cabinetry," she says. "In contemporary, being able to have the appliances covered in the same sleek materials as the cabinets is desirable as well."
